“Last week I was making Carnitas. My son and my girlfriend-in-law were over visiting. I was searing the pork and they kept telling me how good it smelled. Unfortunately, I couldn’t smell it. I mixed the sauce (with cumin, garlic, chili powder) and poured it over the seared meat, and I was able to distinctly smell the Mexican spices…and not just for a couple of seconds, either. I was able to smell it for a few minutes, strongly….and it was delicious. 🙂 Two days later I came home from work in the evening, and as I’m sitting down on the couch, I am able to detect that I smell distinctly ripe! Gross ripe! And again, I was able to smell it for a few minutes, strongly…and it was not delicious. I hightailed it into the shower.
