ACUPUNCTURE in PRESCOTT, AZ

Helping you restore and maintain your well-being

Blending centuries of wisdom with contemporary knowledge and care

Acupuncture is more than symptom relief — it’s a way to help the body recalibrate and heal. This ancient practice can support a wide array of concerns. Whether you’re working through hormonal changes, chronic pain, stress-related fatigue, or other challenges, acupuncture can serve as a supportive complement to your overall care at Partners in Health Care, Naturally.

What Acupuncture Does

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), qi is the vital activity that animates, nourishes, and transforms all tissues and organs, sustaining life and health. Qi (and blood, nutrients, and fluids) circulates through a network of meridians, or channels, connecting the body’s surface with its organs and balancing structure and function. When this flow is smooth and balanced, the body thrives. When it becomes blocked, deficient, or disordered, pain and illness can arise. Through intentional point selection, acupuncture works by restoring natural movement and balance through these meridians, supporting the body’s innate ability to heal.

Acupuncture also has the added benefit of being deeply relaxing for many people. As qi begins to flow more freely during treatment, it’s common to feel calm or even drift into sleep. This state allows the nervous system to shift out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and repair,” supporting the body’s natural healing processes more efficiently.

Our Approach: Integrative & Individualized

Our practitioners have extensive knowledge in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern Western medicine. This allows us to treat the presenting TCM pattern while also helping navigate any Western medical diagnoses or conditions. We use time-honored traditions such as tongue and pulse assessment, along with a full TCM evaluation, to determine the best approach for treating your unique pattern of imbalance.

TCM and acupuncture can help treat:

  • Hormonal and reproductive balance — menstrual irregularities, fertility support, menopause, and andropause
  • Digestive health — bloating, IBS, constipation, diarrhea, reflux
  • Pain and tension — joint stiffness, musculoskeletal conditions, pain, headaches
  • Stress and emotional wellbeing — anxiety, depression, insomnia, fatigue
  • Immune and inflammatory conditions — allergies, recovery from illness
  • + more!

Why Partners in Health Care is Unique

  • All of our providers are doctors, with some having additional extensive training in acupuncture (Licensed Acupuncturist, L.Ac, or Doctor of Oriental Medicine, OMD/DOM).
  • Collaborative care — we offer focused TCM/acupuncture appointments as well as the option to work with our naturopathic doctors in separate, naturopathic-focused visits.
  • Personalized treatment plans that may integrate herbs, nutrition, and lifestyle support.

What to Expect

Your appointment lasts around 60–90 minutes. We’ll discuss your health history, assess tongue and pulse, and create a focused treatment plan. Fine sterile needles are placed at specific points — most patients feel minimal or no discomfort and often drift into a restful state.

Treatment may also include TCM herbal prescriptions, moxa, infrared light, and/or cupping in addition to acupuncture.

Many patients notice improvement within the first few visits, though most chronic issues require a series of consistent treatments for the best results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does acupuncture hurt?

The needles are very thin, and most people report that they do not feel them. Some points have more sensation than others, and sensation is often a good sign of unblocking qi. Desirable sensations include feeling dullness, heaviness, achiness, tingling, or mild pressure. They should not feel sharp or stabbing—in that case adjustment would be needed.

How does acupuncture differ from other forms of needling, like dry needling?

Acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. It works by stimulating specific points along the meridians, aiming to restore the flow of qi, balance the body’s systems, and support overall wellness. Acupuncture addresses both root causes and symptoms, including pain, stress, hormonal imbalance, digestive issues, and more. Treatments are highly individualized, often integrated with lifestyle guidance, herbs, or other therapies.

Dry needling is primarily a Western, musculoskeletal technique. It targets specific muscle trigger points to relieve localized pain or tightness. The focus is usually on mechanical release of tension, rather than balancing energy or organ systems.

Licensed Acupuncturists are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine and also know how to perform dry needling if needed for releasing muscular tension.

How many sessions will I need?

Acute concerns may improve within 2–4 sessions; chronic conditions often benefit from weekly care for several weeks, then tapering to maintenance visits.

Can I use my HSA/FSA?

Yes — acupuncture is eligible for most HSA/FSA plans. Superbills for insurance reimbursement are available upon request or you may pay with your HSA/FSA card.
